Please join us for our 3rd Annual Plein Air Festival in the historic village of Round Lake, NY, based in the Round Lake Auditorium. Our outdoor arts festival presents workshops with teaching artists for all levels and ages.
This event is rain or shine thanks to Round Lake Auditorium, village tents, and the wonderful people of Round Lake
and their porches.
For General supplies we suggest a folding chair, drinking water, lunch, sunscreen, bug spray, hat for the sun, bag for litter.
The Magic of Monotype Printing with Roger Hyndman
Images are painted on glass or plexiglas and printed through a process using a press, a sheet of paper applied over and run through the press by hand. Magic occurs when the paper is lifted off the plate. Appropriate for all ages.
All supplies included.
Keep it Simple with Lisa David
Participants will work in oils and learn challenges of wet on wet, plein air. We will take complex subjects and break them down into simple elements.

Sketching with Pen, Ink, and Watercolor with Carolyn Justice
Carolyn will guide participants in different methods of sketching with emphasis on shading, line work, how to be spontaneous, and the use of watercolor with sketches.

Painting the Village "en Plein Air" with Takeyce Walter
Workshop focus will be on selecting composition, design fundamentals, including emphasis on atmospheric perspective, color theory, and landscape elements. Takeyce will demonstrate in oils, but all media are welcome.

Watercolor Landscape Design inspired by the colorful houses of Round Lake with Kevin Kuhne
Learn how to use strong design, color, darks and lights and exciting watercolor techniques to create memorable vignettes of Historic Round Lake.

Hidden Landscapes in Acrylic with Frank Vurraro
The instructor will provide the hidden landscape. This workshop will acquaint both beginning and advanced participants with Mr. Vurraro's unique approach to painting. The workshop will include a demonstration and techniques. Individual instruction will be provided.

Painting with Peter Huntoon with Peter Huntoon
Join this award-winning Vermont artist for a day of plein air painting. Some experience suggested. Peter will share the methods used to create a dynamic composition. Peter will be using transparent watercolor and gouache.

Photographing Architecture with Sam Ciraulo
Join Sam for a day of digital photography in the historic village of Round Lake, NY. Using the magnificent architecture of this quaint village as our subject, we will explore equipment recommendations, pre-shoot planning, available light shooting, composition, perspective control and other fundamentals of architectural photography. Sam will discuss and demonstrate techniques and offer individual assistance to all participants.
Suggested supplies; All types of digital cameras are welcome. Recommended equipment includes a digital SLR (DSLR) camera, wide angle, and/or telephoto lens, a sturdy tripod and cable release.
Figure and Portrait Drawing with a Costumed Model with Ed Ticson
Learn both fundamental and advanced drawing techniques while drawing a live model in period costume. We will learn to measure and find accurate proportions of the human body in both short gestural and long-term poses. We will also examine how to develop the portrait through shading.
Drawing and Painting for the Totally Terrified with Carol Bollin Donnely
Confidence in yourself comes from success. As a professional art teacher, Carol focuses on building artistic skills to match your ability level. Each activity is designed to teach you a specific skill. Learn how to turn "I can't" into "I can," and find your inner artist.
Supplies: Bring a clipboard or other hard surface to work on, and a mechanical pencil.
Self-guided/ Independent Painting
Choose a spot in the village, on the Zim Smith Trail or by the lake. ($30)
Watercolor classes: Sketchbook, pencil,eraser, watercolor paper, watercolor paint (tube or pan, in warm or cool hues) Suggested brushes - rounds #4, #6 and #10 or larger;flats 1 large & 1 bristle, container for water/ brush cleaning, paper towels, palette, hard surface to work on.
Both Oil and Acrylic classes: Portable easel, canvas or gesso board up to size 12 x 16, regular or disposable palette, paper towels or wiping rags.
Oil classes only: Oil paints, 2 to 4 brushes in varying sizes, linseed oil or other type of medium; Turpenoid, Gamsol or other type of cleaner / solvent, small box to carry wet paint (pizza box works well).
Acrylic classes only: Acrylic paints, palette knife, polymer gloss medium, container for water, suggested brushes - Flats - 1", 1/2", 1/8"; round - #1.
